World Asthma Day

More than 1.5 billion people worldwide suffer from chronic lung disease, and more than 4 million people die each year from asthma and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease. According to the World Health Organization (WHO), it is estimated that more than 399 million people around the world have asthma. One hundred million asthma patients are expected to be added to current patients by 2030, and chronic obstructive pulmonary disease will become the third leading cause of death from disease in the world. Although there is no definitive cure for asthma, it is possible to prevent asthma attacks and reduce the likelihood of their occurrence.

World Asthma Day is held annually on 5 May by the Global Initiative for Asthma (GINA). The group was founded in 1993 as a partner of WHO. This day is dedicated to raising global awareness to all people affected by asthma.

This year's slogan for World Asthma Day is “Uncovering Asthma Misconceptions”.

With this approach, we need to make clear the true and false beliefs about asthma to patients and the general public so that patients with asthma can make the most of the major advances in the management and treatment of this disease.
