Dentistry

The School of Dentistry is among the top five Iranian dental schools.‎ The school offers both patient care services and academic programs allowing dentists to train as specialists.

History

The School of Dentistry was established in 1975. It has started with 1 department and 9 academic faculty members which has grown to 11 departments, 115 faculty staff and 16 professors. The school is one of the largest (more than 14000 ft2) and modern dental schools in Iran with around 700 undergraduate students, 100 post-graduates.

We are among the best dental schools in the country. We intend to be a top school in the region regarding education, research, and innovative techniques for curing all dental-related diseases.

Mission

We achieve our mission by evolving comprehensive Oral Health Education that integrates art, science as well as patient needs. It is lifelong learning in an academic evidence-based environment. We intend to perform research in an interdisciplinary, dynamic environment to improve oral health care and impact overall health.

Department and Majors

There are 11 departments in the school: Endodontic, Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Oral Public Health, Oral Medicine, Operative, Dentistry, Orthodontics, Oral and maxillofacial pathology, Pedodontics, Periodontics, Prosthodontics and Oral and maxillofacial pathology Radiology.

Students are admitted in General Doctorate Degree of Dentistry (DDS) and 10 postgraduate programs and the PhD program in Oral Public Health, as well as fellowship programs in Hospitalized Dentistry, Implant Surgery and Prosthodontics. A bachelor program for dental technicians is also available.

Courses

In the School of Dentistry, students will take courses in general and specific areas of dentistry, including oral and maxillofacial surgery, oral radiology, anaesthesia, restorative dentistry, geriatric dentistry and pediatric dentistry. They also complete preclinical experiences in which they work on patients' teeth under supervision, and such work may take place at a hospital or dental clinic. In their last semesters, they gain knowledge and skills to works independently. Visit courses of each semester in the website.

Facilities

The School of Dentistry is equipped with training clinics, laboratories, computer site and a conference hall.

Training Clinics ISD’ building consists of 10 undergraduate and 10 post-graduate training clinics with more than 300 dental unit chairs located in different departments and equipped with all the necessary dental facilities based on the requirements of the courses. The research building consists of two clinics with more than 20 dental unit chairs used for various research and treatment programs. The school has three educational and professional laboratories: 1. Central laboratory, 2. Prosthodontics laboratory, 3. Preclinical Lab.

There are More than 20 computers with adjunct facilities in the central computer lab. There also several halls for meetings, seminars and workshops.

Area of Focus

The school of Dentistry cooperates with three research centers including Dental Research Center, Dental Implants Research Center and Dental Materials Research Center. Also, each academic staff has an independent research map based on his/her expertise.
