Rehabilitation Sciences

Rehabilitation Science is an interdisciplinary field that focuses on human function and disability, enhancing physical and psychosocial functioning, participation in life situations, and quality of life of people with disabilities.

History

The School of Rehabilitation Sciences at Medical University of Isfahan (MUI) was established in 1992. Then, with identifying the educational polices and the capitalizing on potent workforces, the decision was made to launch specialized fields such as physiotherapy Orthotics and Prosthetics and Speech Therapy. The first group of students were accepted in the academic year 1993. In the year 1998, the first undergraduate students graduated from this school. Currently, the School of Rehabilitation Sciences is accepting undergraduate students in the field of Audiology, Occupational Therapy, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy; and is accepting students in Master of science in Orthotics and Prosthetics, Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy. The school has started to accept Ph.D. students in Orthotics and Prosthetics since 2016.

Vision

School of Rehabilitation Sciences aims to obtain scientific excellence in three areas:

1) Bridging between Rehabilitation Sciences and wealth

2) Using new technologies to improve lives of elderly

3) Raising public awareness of rehabilitation sciences at different levels of Iran health care system to become the top site in the field of rehabilitation expertise

Mission

Our main mission is to train skilful and professional students in various fields of Rehabilitation Sciences from undergraduate to doctoral programs. We focus on professional ethics and scientific researches to enhance modern rehabilitation services and meet the community needs.

The School of Rehabilitation Sciences with outstanding students, specialists and young faculty members, dedicated staff, international communications, specialized clinics, research centres, postgraduate courses are educational services, provides its research and clinical services in accordance with world up-to-date standards to the community through close relationship with organizations and agencies in the field of rehabilitation.

Department and Majors

The School of Rehabilitation Sciences has five departments of Audiology, Occupational Therapy, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy. The school offers undergraduate majors in the field of Audiology, Occupational Therapy, Orthotics and Prosthetics, Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy; in Master of Science, graduate students can study in Orthotics and Prosthetics, Physiotherapy and Speech Therapy. Also, from 2016, the school has been offering Ph.D. position in Orthotics and Prosthetics.

Courses

Students starts with general courses. Specialized courses and observatory practices are in the next stage. In final semesters, students have internship in an affiliated hospital. Due to the nature of rehabilitation, mainly courses encompass theoretical and practical subjects. These courses provide evidence-based practice, clinical measurement and application of knowledge to practice.

Facilities

The School of Rehabilitation Sciences has several clinics for students and scholars. Clinics that offer various therapeutic services in the school are Audiometry Clinic, Occupational Therapy Clinic, Cleft Lip and Palate Clinic, Orthotics and Prosthetics Clinic, Physiotherapy Clinic and Speech Therapy. The Rehabilitation Clinics of this faculty are also active in some hospitals of Isfahan like Alzahra hospital and Ayatollah Kashani hospital.

Area of Focus
