Nowruz is one of the oldest and most important Iranian festivals. It is known as the Persian New Year, which has been celebrated for thousands of years by Iranians of all ethnic and religious groups. The celebration of Nowruz has now spread all around the world. Since it is celebrated in many countries, in 2010 the United Nations has recognized Nowruz as an International Day.
While specific traditions vary from country to country, the central theme is the same: a celebration of spring and a time for rebirth and renewal of life.
