Nutrition and Food Sciences

The School of Nutrition and Food Sciences improves human health during the life span by training in the fields of dietetics and nutritional sciences, in food safety and food security, and in global health and international nutrition.

History

Department of Nutrition and Food Science was established in 1987 as Nutrition Department in School of Health at Medical University of Isfahan (MUI). To extend nutritional knowledge, the first group of BSc students of nutrition entered the school. School of Nutrition and Food Science was officially established after approving three educational departments of Clinical Nutrition, Community Nutrition and Food Technology and Science in 2009 and three MSc courses were established thereafter in 2010. PhD course in nutrition science also accepted students in the academic year 2007.

Vision

We aim to become the preeminent in the School of Nutrition and Food Science at Medical University of Isfahan, and finally measure up to a country-level school for Food, Nutrition and Health through research, educating, and leadership in human nutrition.

Mission

The mission of the school is to prepare future professionals and support the community through discovery, didactic and experiential teaching and learning, and the development of services and products that improve the health and wellbeing of individuals, families, and communities in a complex and changing society, and to assist local, national and global food industries.

Department and Majors

The school has five majors in three departments:  

  • Department of Clinical Nutrition,
  • Department of Community Nutrition,  
  • Department of Food Technology and Science

The majors support undergraduate, graduate and PhD students

Courses

Our programs prepare students for challenging and rewarding careers in the professional fields of nutrition, dietetics, food science and technology, with opportunities both in the private sector as well as government agencies. Our programs also provide a strong academic background for graduate study and research.

Facilities

The School has three equipped laboratories for study and research:

1) Molecular Biology Lab

2) Nutrition Research Lab

3) An Accredited Food Testing Laboratory

Area of Focus

The school of Nutrition is to improve human health through better nutrition and lifestyle. The school strives to accomplish this goal through research aimed at an increased understanding of how diet influences health at molecular and population levels, the development of nutritional strategies, informing policy, the education of researchers and practitioners, and the dissemination of nutrition information to health professionals and the public.
