MBBS Program Overview

The Bachelor of Medicine, Bachelor of Surgery (MBBS) is a globally recognized undergraduate medical degree, typically completed 5.5 years, that serves as the foundational qualification for medical practitioners in many countries. This comprehensive program blends rigorous academic study of biomedical sciences with extensive clinical training, providing students with the knowledge and practical skills necessary for diagnosing and treating illnesses, performing surgical procedures, and delivering comprehensive patient care. Graduates of MBBS programs are equipped to pursue diverse career paths in various medical specialties, research, public health, and medical education, contributing significantly to healthcare systems worldwide.

A key difference between the MD and MBBS lies in the length of the clinical phase of training: MD programs necessitate 3.5 years of clinical experience, encompassing studentship, externship, and internship stages, whereas MBBS programs require a 2-year clinical phase for graduation.

Educational Program Features and Structure

MUI is committed to providing an advanced curriculum and dedicated faculty to produce graduates equipped with modern medical knowledge and technology. The International Education Department seeks to enhance the MBBS program by fostering student involvement in policy-making and focusing on seven key competencies, including clinical skills, communication, patient care, and medical ethics. The MBBS program as an undergraduate course of study is divided into three main stages:

1. Basic Medical Science: The pre-clinical phase lasts for 2.5 years, focusing on theoretical and practical courses of basic and general medical sciences.

2. Introduction to Clinical Medicine (ICM): In this phase students learn fundamentals of clinical medicine stage, lasting for 1 year. 

3. Externship: Clinical clerkship in different wards and clinics lasts for 2 years.
